To decorate without frosting (do this only if you want to add nuggets to sugar cookies without frosting).

  • Use a pastry brush and brush the cookies with a little milk or cream. Then decorate with glitter, which will stick to the milk / cream.

Cook

  1. Bake in preheated oven for 9 to 10 minutes or until cookies are puffy and just lay on the edges.
  2. Remove and let stand on a cookie sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  3. Repeat with the second disc of dough.

Make the sugar cookie frosting:

  1. Combine all of the frosting ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk to combine.
  2. Start with 2 tablespoons of milk and increase until the desired consistency is reached.
  3. If using food coloring, separate the frosting into smaller bowls and add food coloring as desired.
  4. Place each color in a disposable piping bag fitted with the tip of your choice.
  5. Once the cookies have completely cooled, decorate the cookies.
  6. Let the decorated cookies sit at room temperature for at least 3 hours or until the frosting is completely hardened. Cooling them in the refrigerator speeds up the setting process.
  7. Store in an airtight container or on a plate wrapped in plastic wrap at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
